Why did you choose optometry as a profession?
I was an optician for two and a half years right out of college and really enjoyed the experience. I was fortunate to be working with some remarkable optometrists and opticians who taught me a lot about patient care, things I carry with me to this day. I had originally planned to go to grad school for clinical psychology but changed course after realizing how enjoyable it was to be in optometry and be able to improve the lives of our patients so immediately and drastically.
What do you want your patients to know about your approach to care?
I want patients to feel relaxed and comfortable during their eye exams, knowing that I will do my very best to get them into a prescription they will love, whether it be a first-time spectacle-wearer or helping a lifelong wearer succeed with the newest high-tech products. I also take pride in managing my patients’ ocular health and encourage questions. This allows us to learn from each other, so we can be equal partners in keeping their eyes healthy.
